Mosquito-borne diseases are a major cause of death and illness globally, particularly in tropical and subtropical climates like Vietnam. Personal protection with insect repellent is an effective measure to help prevent mosquito bites and disease transmission. In this study, we used para-menthane-3,8-diol (PMD), synthesized from Vietnamese Eucalyptus citriodora essential oil, as the main active ingredient combined with vanillin to create a preparation with a mild odor, no side effects, and high mosquito repellent efficacy for 6 hours on the Aedes aegypti strain.
